Glossary of Packaging Terms
The words the packaging trade uses, in plain English.

Neck finish: the threaded or lugged opening dimension, written as diameter/thread style, such as 28/410. Continuous thread (CT) closures screw on; lug closures engage in a short twist. Headspace is the empty volume left under the closure — critical for hot fill and for freezing. Liner is the disc inside a closure that actually seals against the container land.
Other terms you will hear: parison (the plastic preform before blow moulding), annealing (controlled cooling of glass to relieve stress), tamper-evident band, induction seal, shrink band, and decoration methods such as silk screen, pad print, and label application.
